>> live, local, and late- breaking, this wbal tv 11 news tonight in hd. >> the results are slowly coming in as cabinets in the two most hotly contested races wait for the final numbers. >> we begin tonight with a look at the city state's attorney's race. here are the latest numbers. incumbered -- the incumbent is at 49%. the challenger at 47%. carrie cavanaugh is live. we begin with the david tonight. >> it has been and excruciating wait. pat jessup -- says it is great to be among her supporters.

>> win or lose, patricia jessamy is being treated like a champion. the polls tipped slightly in her favor. at one point, barely 400 votes separated her and the challenger. it includes a former state's attorney who gave her the first shot at a job years ago. she needed a strong voter turnout. it was a 13.6% turnout. >> it has been a very exciting day. it has been a pleasure to be out among the citizens of baltimore city. so i am very happy, very confident. >> this may be the most expensive city state's

attorney's race. each candidate spent more than $150,000. $100,000 out of her own pocket. >> here are the latest numbers in the race. incumbent patricia jessamy and challenger craig bernstein, neck-and-neck. we want to go right now it to canton where carrie cavanaugh has the latest. >> the mood is cautiously optimistic. we have not seen bernstein here all night. they are eager to hear from him here. the early numbers show he is trailing slightly behind, but many of his supporters are convinced he will close that gap. we will show you a video of him earlier in the day when he went to cast his vote in his home precinct. we are hearing from the many

volunteers today that he was a leading in areas like south could vote and the rolling park area by margins of 2 to 1. here in canton, there is a strong showing from the baltimore police department. there are several high ranking detectives here tonight. the police commissioner is a noticeably absent. he raised bernstein's profile considerably when he put a sign in his salon. lawn. patricia jessamy protest that. we are expecting bernstein to make our an appearance. we are told that he wants to come and thank all the people who have been working at the polls for him all day. he is walking in right now. let me motion him over to the podium. you can hear from him directly.

>> [cheering] >> ok, here comes mr. bernstein to a rousing cheer from his supporters. let's hear what he has to say. >> how y'all doing? >> yay! >> all right, look, we wanted to say hi and thank everyone so much for helping. i can tell you that in looks like it is going to be very close, and it is a very early, very early. it is impossible right now to predict which way it is going to go except to say that it could be a very long night. so i just wanted to say hello to everybody. i do not know how long -- i will hang around. a lot of you have been here a long time. hi. i do not know what time the borrower cloar closes.

i just want to thank everybody from the bottom of my heart. it has been all really long day for many, many of you. it has been a long day for me. it has been very exciting. all i can say is, from all the polling places we went to throughout the day, we got the same level of enthusiasm and excitement that we have gotten throughout this campaign over the last 2.5 months as we have gone through neighborhoods all over the city. and we are confident. we think we are going to win. we think we will win not only because of the voters but because of all the work you have done. sharon, i cannot thank you enough. so, enjoy the night. and hope -- and hopefully, we will all wake up tomorrow morning and you will have in the state's attorney.

[cheering] >> so, greg bernstein sounding very optimistic. he has a lot of supporters packed in behind us in canton. many of them spent 12 hours working the polls. we will check in as soon as more numbers comment. for now, he is keeping the faith that tomorrow he will have a new job. >> we now will take a look at the race for baltimore county executive. here is a look at the numbers right now. we also want to mention to you again, very, very early in the vote totals. only 12% of precincts are reporting. more will come in even though the polls closed more than three hours ago. voter turnout is low. barton felder is 41%. again, very early, with only 12% of the vote coming in. we want to go to deborah.

>> it is so interesting how the 11:00 hour shifts of the mood, producing candidates, producing supporters. we just got word that moments with his family, with his wife, is headed down from his war room where he celebrated many victories in the past. we are told he is very optimistic. about 20 minutes ago, he will told that their numbers were about 60% with him. 60% in the lead with 133 pre sings in so far. i am keeping my eye on the door. in the last few minutes, his supporters and fund raisers gathered. the mood here changed substantially from i would say cautiously nervous because they knew this to be a tight race. they knew it would be a close race. that is their word.

a family attorney from towson, a fixture in local politics for years. waging at a battle against joe barton. kevin raised $1.3 million. on television early in the campaign. the mood seems to be very upbeat at this hour. we are waiting for kevin to agree to his supporters. as i said, they are optimistic at this point. we are still waiting at the pikesville hilton. back to you. >> here is a look at the numbers for baltimore county executive. joe barton felter, 41%. kevin, 56%. 12% of the votes in. our reporter is live tonight.

>> this is a room full of anticipation, as about 300 of his supporters are anxiously waiting for the final numbers to comment. as we look at some of the videos it -- i can tell you, they have made several announcements here. barton felder has a slight lead. will be a very long night, but it may be awhile before all of the official numbers come in. a lot of times, something in the eastern parts of the county, that includes his district -- the campaign spokesperson told me minutes ago that he felt confident that regardless of the outcome he feels very proud of the campaign he has run. >> we seem a very positive. his wife, all of us. we have done everything we can do, and today is the day. we will find out if the voters decide on joe barton felder or

not. we are upbeat about it and positive. >> we do expect that he will make an appearance at some point, but likely will not be until more official numbers come in. we will continue to monitor the numbers and the mood here at campaign headquarters. for now, we are reporting live from parksville. >> thank you so much. we have a lot more coming your way. we want to go right now to the race for governor. martin o'malley has won the democratic nomination for governor. martin o'malley beat ralph jaffey who did not campaing. gn. >> for governor bob ehrlich weld rematch against martin o'malley this november. he beat newcomer brian murphy, a business investor endorsed by former alaska governor sarah palin. we have 41% of the precincts

reporting. bob ehrlich with a 76% to 24%. members on your screen. >> voter turnout statewide was significantly lower than expected. only about 15,000 baltimore residents had been to the polls by 11:00 this morning. 18% of voters took part. the low turnout is disappointing, say officials. official numbers could be released sometime tomorrow. and many people share their voting experience on our facebook page. charles says "went in or around 2:00 p.m. and was the only one there to vote. it lasted about five men." marie said, "i was bombarded with people talking about a vote for me. early voting for me next year, followed by a smiley face." be sure to stay with us for the live, local, late-breaking updates on the primary elections. we will be scrawling the latest results at the bottom of your

they are continuing to look at the numbers. they want supporters to hang around. kevin kamenetz said he likes along party on election night, and that is what he is getting so far. he wanted to address supporters, and i think that was good for them here. as i indicated earlier, they said they knew it would be a close race. no one expected the numbers to come in at this rate. that is surprising to everybody. waiting for these kinds of numbers is like waiting for a jury to come out with deliberations, is what he said. everybody thinks that everybody else has the right numbers. everyone continue to check in with each other to see what is going on here right out -- no victory or concession speech. just hang tight speech. >> thank you at very much. it will be a long night at joe bartenfelder's camp. our reporter is there. both of these gentlemen, longtime county councilman. the voters there no both these

candidates very, very well. >> most certainly. i just spoke with them a moment ago. as soon as we got off the air, joe bartenfelder walked in to a cheering crowd. all the people in yellow and black teachers. he is doing -- doing it into the right note -- all the people in yellow and black t-shirts. he is speaking right now. he talked about the fact that the number are too slow coming in. no one should be making announcements. he feels very confident. he is cautiously optimistic, but he feels he has run a clean, positive campaign, and feels very confident. he is saying, be patient. we will make the announcement as soon as the numbers are more official. for now, we want to stay up beat. we will see if we can grab him

and a couple minutes. for now, let's go back to the studio. i think we can get him right here. mr. joe bartenfelder, can you come over? hopefully, you can hear me. i want ask you about the fact that you ran it -- this has been a very, very tight race. tell me about what has set you apart here as you stand here tonight? >> it was a real tight race. we have numbers and they are not official or anything, but we are waiting for more numbers to come in from the northwest section of the county. >> you spend a lot of time campaigning up until the last minute today. tell me about what you want voters to remember as they went to the polls this morning about you and the issues that you feel strongly about? >> our main focus was to make sure that we kept our campaign on a positive note, and we did that. we wanted to make sure that the voters and people in that the county know that we want to lead this county in a positive way.

education, the economy, jobs, public safety is first and foremost. on our agenda. and i think it is first and foremost on the agenda of people in baltimore county. we kept it what the issues were. >> as you walked in the door, you talked about your volunteers, your supporters, and you said, it is not over till it's over. tell me about that. >> you know, it is not over until the votes are all in. we have about a 4,000 vote lead, but there are numbers that are missing. you need to add them all and. >> thank you very much. joe bartenfelder waiting for those votes to come in. we will send it back to the studio. we will bring you up speed -- updates as we get more numbers. >> we want to go to cherry hill where pat jessamy's headquarters is. waiting for numbers,

anticipating, celebrating, possibly. do you have for we do? >> yes, we do. pat jessamy, the numbers have been coming in very slowly, and they have been fluctuating. it slows you with a slight edge over -- it shows you with a slight edge over mr. bernstein, but you are keeping track of the numbers. what is your take on what you are seeing, if you are not comfortable giving out specific numbers of? >> we are very confident that -- [cheering] that when the story is told, we will be victorious. >> we are seeing it -- they are cheering because they are seeing you on television. >> i have a very enthusiastic crowd here. >> tell me about your day today. >> i went to about 40 polls and interacted with the voters and the volunteers, because it is

very important whether you are volunteering on my campaign or other campaigns, to be sickly involved and engaged. i thank all of those volunteers -- to be sickly involved and engaged. it was wonderful. i got a lot of hugs, handshakes, thumbs up. it was encouraging. >> you been through a lot of campaigns before. recently, was this the toughest campaign you have been through? >> i think it was the most divisive. but my grandfather used to tell us all the time, do not let it make you better. let make you better. that is what i have decided to do in every tough fight i have ever had. >> what do you plan to do? are you going to stick around until all the results are in? what is your game plan? >> we have lots of volunteers here waiting for results. so i will be here with them. and once we know what is happening, then we will probably

enjoy ourselves into the early morning hours. >> the bottom line is that you are confident you will win this race. >> we are very confident. >> thank you very much. city state's attorney patricia jessamy. rival,jessamy's main greg bernstein. we have our reporter kerry cavanaugh there. >> the volume level has dropped because mr. bernstein has left the building. he thanked his supporters for working the polls today. as you can hear, they are giving him all round of applause as he exits. and they are looking at some numbers coming in. they are giving everybody some optimism. i am joined by the president of the -- a lot of police officer to the day off work or to personal time to work the polls today. talk about why there was such a strong turnout for mr. bernstein today. >> are police officers looked baltimore city and are committed to making this a safer city and a stronger baltimore, and are --

we are really happy that our members were able to come out and make the endorsement of mr. bernstein, not just a paper endorsement, but turn our our members to explain to our public from north or west baltimore, that he is someone that will work together across the entire city to really, again, as he has put it, fice -- fight crime first period and work with our commissioner to make it a safer city. we're grateful our members were able to help out. >> you have been watching the numbers. it is a tight race. it is a risk for all of these cops to support bernstein if jessamy becomes elected. >> mrs. jessamy is a great woman and a public servant. we have a great relationship with her. i do not think it will affect anything, the matter which way this race goes. we are confident that if it is mrs. jessamy, or mr. bernstein,

towards the end of september, and it will be that kind of weather. sunshine -- after 40's in the morning. lots of sunshine on shore. annapolis should hit 80 degrees. same thing at st. michael's and cambridge. or eastern shore about the same. most spots and the low 80's. low humidity and lots of sunshine. the tropics is where the headlines are being made. igore is almost a category five. the winds are up to 155 miles per hour. thankfully, it is well removed from the islands. it is moving towards boehner ermuda. julia. and a new storm. three storms to track. the big one is igor. if the storm gets any stronger,

trophy. now he will walk away from the heisman trophy. the former trojan announced he will forfeit the trophy. bush had accepted improper benefits that made him technically an eligible in 2005. he becomes the first recipient in its 75 year history of the heisman trophy to return the award. the runner-up, texas quarterback has mixed feelings as to whether or not that heisman should come his way. in an interview, young says he wants the award. but on his twitter account, he says he will continue to think of bush as the heisman award. because no heisman awardee has never for for the award before, there is no trust to draw on. the trust may not -- may consider whether to give the trophy to the runner-up. the orioles things do that -- seem to have a thing for streaks against the blue jays. an 11-3 row with
